Offices In Colorado Springs, Pueblo, And The Denver Metro Area

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that December 23rd and 24th are two of the top five deadliest days for drivers in the country. Beyond those two days, the entire holiday season seems to pose a threat to motorists, as there are more car accidents during that brief time of the year than any other. What is going on to cause the roads to become such hazards and drivers to apparently become more negligent?

Three reasons holiday car accidents might occur in droves are:

  1. Intoxication: Holiday festivities are often accompanied by eggnog, spiced wine, and other forms of spirits to lift everyone’s spirits and make the nights a little warmer. The problem is that many drivers think having just a few drinks before driving is fine when it really is not. Buzzed driving really is drunk driving. Don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking. Taxis and Ubers will be out in full force during the holidays – use one!
  2. Holiday travel: Just about everyone has a family member or two that is a city, county, or state away. In order to see them and not break the bank, holiday road trips are essential. This big influx of drivers on the road – and many of them being in unfamiliar territory – escalates the chances of getting into a crash with someone not paying enough attention.
  3. Harsh weather: The wintry weather is not on your side when it comes to driving, especially if you live in Colorado. Snowfall and ice on the road pose serious threats to safety that many people overlook in their holiday rush. Driving slowly and carefully is a must if you want to make it to your destination without incident.
